Cinnamon Author scoops major Scottish prize

6 May 2008

Jane McKie's debut poetry collection  Morocco Rococo  has been announced as the category winner of best first book in the Sundial Scottish Arts Council book of the year awards.

Making a short-list for a major prize is a real boost to a small press, but it's particularly satisfying to win a prize, so Cinnamon is doubly delighted that Jane McKie's debut poetry collection  Morocco Rococo  has been announced as the category winner of best first book in the Sundial Scottish Arts Council book of the year awards. Jane scoops a cheque for £5000 and goes forward to be considered for an additional prize of £20,000 for best Scottish book of the year, alongside such luminaries as Edwin Morgan.

The overall winner will be announced at Borders Book Festival in Melrose on 20 June 2008 at an event hosted by writer and comedian Rory Bremner.

"Morocco Rococo was originally winner of the Cinnamon Press Poetry Collection Award and we’re thrilled at Cinnamon Press to have our choice so resoundingly confirmed," said Jan Fortune-Wood, on behalf of the Press.
