Launch of the Assembly's Report on Welsh Writing in English

During the launch of the National Assembly’s Culture Committee report on Welsh Writing in English, Gwerfyl Pierce Jones, Director of the Books Council, noted that the document was a valuable contribution to the debate on this important field. ‘The recommendations are positive and practical,’ she said, ‘and, taken as a package, they have the potential to transform the present state of Welsh Writing in English.’

The report’s main focus is on supporting and developing the publishing sector and highlights a commissioning fund for authors, strengthening the infrastructure of publishing houses, investment in marketing and encouraging bookshops to promote the books.

‘The Books Council is confident that the publishing industry will respond positively to this report,’ added Gwerfyl Pierce Jones. ‘By working together we can make sure that Welsh Writing in English is given the prominence that it deserves.’
