Junior Scrabble now Available in Welsh

26 Nov 2010

Following the production in 2005 of the popular word game  Scrabble yn Gymraeg,  a Welsh version of  Junior Scrabble  is available this Christmas.

Based on the original design, there are two games included in the same pack, with a simpler version for younger children on one side of the board, and a more challenging game for older children on the other side.

In welcoming the publication of the Welsh version, Alun Ffred Jones, the Minister for Heritage, said: ‘The publication of the adult version of  Scrabble  some years ago was a great success, and now children and young people will be delighted to have their own Welsh version of the game to enjoy.’

Scrabble is the most popular word game in the world, with versions produced in 27 different languages, including Arabic, Hebrew and Hungarian.

Elwyn Jones, Director of the Books Council, added: ‘Scrabble is an old favourite, and today it remains as popular as ever. Playing this simple game is an excellent way of introducing and extending the vocabulary of young players, and it will be an ideal gift for the whole family this Christmas.’
