The Books Industry in Wales Bucks Sales Trend

4 Apr 2012

The publishing trade in Wales has reported an increase in sales at the end of the financial year, outperforming the industry across the UK.

Sales through the Welsh Books Council’s Distribution Centre showed an increase of 1% during the last 12 months, which is most encouraging in the present economic climate and copmpares with a 6–8% reduction in sales throughout Britain.

"We are aware of the huge challenges facing the industry at present and any increase is excellent news for the industry," said Elwyn Jones, Chief Executive of the Welsh Books Council.

"The result is a credit to the work of publishers and booksellers, and an endorsement of the quality of books produced in Wales as well as the readers’ appetite for the books."
