Wales Book of the Year Award Ceremony 2013

5 Jul 2013

On Thursday, 18 July, Literature Wales will celebrate the best of Welsh literature at the Award Ceremony for one of Wales’ most prestigious literary prizes - the Wales Book of the Year Award.

The evening will be presented by  Gavin and Stacey  star Steffan Rhodri, who is currently appearing in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of  A Mad World My Masters. He will be joined by co-presenter Ffion Dafis, the actress and presenter who is a popular and familiar face on S4C.

During the evening, the winners will make their way to the stage to the accompaniment of live music from Y Niwl - the Welsh instrumental surf-rock band whose recent successes include having their song  Undegpedwar  used as the theme tune to the BBC weekend sports show  Football Focus.

The Wales Book of the Year Award 2013 is presented to the best Welsh and English-language works published in 2012 in the fields of creative writing and literary criticism in the following categories: Fiction, Creative Non-fiction and The Roland Mathias Award for Poetry. Category winners will receive a cheque for  £2,000, and the main Award winner in both Welsh and English will receive a further  £6,000 each. At the Ceremony the winners of the  People’s Prize  and  Gwobr Barn y Bobl  will also be announced and presented with a specially commissioned trophy by Media Wales and Golwg360 respectively.

The Ceremony will take place on Thursday, 18 July, at 7.00pm at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. Tickets cost  £10.00 /  £8.00, and a wine and canapé reception is included in the price.
