Following the advertisement of a tender to provide an on-line news service in Welsh, the Welsh Books Council have announced that Golwg Newydd have secured the franchise for a further three-year period.

"We received applications of a very high standard," said Elwyn Jones, Chief Executive of the Welsh Books Council, "which demonstrated the expertise and experience of companies in the field of journalism and in the use of technology. The challenge for Golwg Newydd now is to develop the multi-media elements of Golwg 360 within the resources available."

One of the aims of supporting the on-line service has been to broaden the use of the Welsh-language amongst the public and John Griffiths, the Minister for Culture and Sport said, "Golwg 360 has developed to be a vital resource for Welsh speakers. This announcement will enable the company to build on what has been achieved so far and continue to play an important role in providing Welsh speakers with an online news service – a valuable contribution to the delivery of the Welsh Government’s Welsh Language Strategy."
