Just after 9am on Friday, 9 October, T. Llew Jones’s centenary was celebrated in schools across Wales with the unveiling of a new poster commissioned by the Welsh Books Council. The south Wales artist, Andy Robert Davies, was commissioned to create the drawing which is based on ‘Cwm Alltcafan’  –  a poem by T. Llew Jones.

Elwyn Jones, Chief Executive of the Welsh Books Council, explained:
‘It was an exciting opportunity for everyone to unite to celebrate the centenary of one of the most well known authors in Wales. Having every primary school celebrating this event on the same day and at the same time meant that T. Llew and his work were discussed by hundreds of children as part of the celebrations.’

T. Llew Jones, who was originally from the village of Pentre-cwrt near Llandysul, has inspired children and adults from Wales for many years and his most well known works, such as Barti Ddu, Dirgelwch yr Ogof and Tân ar y Comin, appear on the bookshelves of most enthusiastic readers in Wales  –  in homes and in schools.

Elwyn added:  ‘Even though the birthday is actually on Sunday, 11 October, we had to celebrate on a school day so that children across the whole of Wales could be part of this important celebration.’
