Roald Dahl - Imagine That!

3 Mar 2016

Actor Chris Kinahan stars in the show Roald Dahl - Imagine That! to tour around schools and libraries in Wales.

World Book Day, 3 March, will see the launch of a new theatre in education show for schools and libraries, celebrating the works of the world's number one storyteller, Roald Dahl. A joint venture between the Welsh Books Council and Mewn Cymeriad / In Character children's theatre company, the show forms part of the official Roald Dahl 100 centenary celebrations of the author in Wales.

This year's Bardd Plant Cymru (Welsh Children's Laureate), Anni Llŷn, has created the script and Whitland-based actor, Chris Kinahan, will take the lead role. Chris will portray an eccentric character named Alf on stage, and will present some of the author's most popular works to children of primary school age (9 to 11 year-olds).

Angharad Tomos, Reading Promotions Project Manager for the Welsh Books Council, said:
"I'm really pleased that we can offer this new show to libraries and schools across Wales and that we are part of the exciting centenary celebrations. It's great to be able to work with a company such as In Character and to see children throughout the country learning about the life of the storyteller who was born in Wales, in both Welsh and English."

John Collins, Brand Marketing Director for The Roald Dahl Literary Estate LLP, said:
"We are very pleased to see such a fun and inventive approach to bringing Roald Dahl's stories to life in schools and libraries as part of Roald Dahl 100. We're certain that children across Wales will be delighted with the show."

Eleri Twynog Davies from Mewn Cymeriad/In Character is looking forward to touring the show across Wales. She said:
"So many children are familiar with, and immensely enjoy Roald Dahl's stories, and I'm very much looking forward, in this, his centenary year, to working with the Welsh Books Council and Anni Llŷn to take this show around schools and libraries throughout Wales, entertaining children and encouraging reading."

A talented actor who has worked with several theatre companies across the United Kingdom, Chris Kinahan says he is delighted to be telling the tales of the world's number one storyteller:
"Alf is quite a character, and I'm really looking forward to introducing him to the children of Wales. Hopefully, his eccentric and fun portrayals will be a fitting homage to some of the wonderful characters that appear in Roald Dahl's books."
