Angharad Tomos Leads Next Author Tour

15 Apr 2016

Angharad Tomos, the prolific Welsh-language author, will lead the next @LlyfrDaFabBooks Author Tour. Six primary schools in the Caernarfon area will enjoy a workshop with Angharad, in which she'll discuss two of her latest novels, both based in 1960s Wales –  Paent!  and  Darn Bach o Bapur.

The Welsh Books Council, in partnership with Cyngor Gwynedd, has arranged for Angharad to visit six schools between 19 and 22 April, and this tour complements the activities of the Bedwen Lyfrau book festival which will be held at Galeri, Caernarfon, on Saturday, 23 April. The author sessions will reinforce the reading promotion aspect of this annual event.

Angharad Tomos will speak about the two novels and their historical context, and will discuss her work as an author.

"This will be an excellent opportunity to boost the pupils' enjoyment of reading, and to encourage them to do some creative writing of their own," said Sharon Owen, the @LlyfrDaFabBooks Author Tour's organiser. The following Gwynedd schools will participate in the sessions: Bro Llifon, Dolbadarn, Bethel, y Felinheli, Llanrug and Bontnewydd.

According to Elwyn Williams, officer of Cwlwm Cyhoeddwyr Cymru, a forum representing Welsh-language publishers in Wales, "It's great that the Books Council has arranged this tour during the week leading up to the Bedwen Lyfrau event held in Caernarfon. Everyone will enjoy Angharad's sessions, and they will definitely encourage the children, their parents and teachers to attend the Bedwen on 23 April for a day of lively activities."

Palas Print will host a bookstall at each venue to offer the pupils an opportunity to purchase Welsh books.
