Launch of Dahlightful Stories Competition

6 Jun 2016

The Dahlightful Stories Competition has been launched.

The Dahlightful Stories Competition is an exciting and adventurous new creative writing competition for children in Years 3 to 13 and living in Wales. It is an official Roald Dahl 100 Wales contest, and in order to enter children must write their own Dahl-inspired adventure story and send in to the Welsh Books Council by 20 July. Leading authors Phil Carradice, Horatio Clare and Dr Elin Meek will judge the entries, and excellent prizes will be presented to the winning schools and individuals. The competition will be open for entries from 30 May to 20 July 2016, and a competition pack is available that includes a lesson plan and classroom activity sheets, which makes it easy and fun for schools to get started and take part. Angharad Wyn Tomos, Reading Promotions Project Manager for the Welsh Books Council, said: "What better way to celebrate the life and work of the world's number one storyteller than by creating your own story? Roald Dahl is an author that resonates with and inspires children and adults alike, and we hope that this competition will be an opportunity to hear the voice of the next generation of budding storytellers." The winning and shortlisted entries of the competition will be published in an anthology that will be for sale throughout Wales in the autumn.
